House in Argyll

The project consists of some internal re-modelling and a modest one storey rear extension to an existing Victorian house located on an elevated hillside in Argyll, Scotland. While contemporary in form, the new extension is configured to sit sympathetically with the existing building and transform the quality of the existing kitchen space.

High-quality materials are used for the new works which complement the existing palette of white rendered walls and traditional slate. The extension’s overall massing reinforces its intrinsic ancillary role and underpins the main house's existing architectural presence. Metal-clad ancillary accommodation is not untypical in rural Scottish agricultural and distillery groupings and we see this modest extension as belonging to that tradition.
