The client’s brief for the re-modelling of this Glasgow Victorian dwelling was to increase daylight in the main reception hall and improve connectivity between the family spaces on the garden-facing side of the house. Beyond the stairs, a series of glazed screens create a delightful private retreat, transforming the quality of daylight and garden views in the existing entrance hall. The new stair to the attic bedrooms reinterpret the existing Victorian timber baluster. Quality materials, muted colours, daylight, careful detailing and a light touch bringing new and old together enhance the generosity of space, proportion and detail which Victorian domestic architecture of this period so confidently displays.
